The story takes place in a small and poor village in Bulgaria, close to the border with Turkey and Greece. Mityo lives with his son Vasko. The relationship between father and son is tense after the recent death of Mityo's wife and mother of Vasko. Things get even worse when the dairy, where Mityo has worked for 15 years, goes bankrupt. He stays unemployed and can no longer cover the payments on the loan, which he has took out several years earlier for his wife’s treatment. There is a real danger that Mityo and Vasko end up homeless. Between a rock and a hard place, Mityo accepts work from his former commander ‛the Captain’, from his years of military service. His job now is to smuggle illegal immigrants over the Bulgarian-Turkish border. The road passes through an ill-fated place for Mityo . The conflict escalates further when Vasko reveals his father’s secret. Mityo is desperate and accepts one last risky assignment.
