A literary evening with critic Aliette Armel

LE GRAND CAHIER - Aliette Armel A LITERARY EVENING WITH ALIETTE ARMEL

LE GRAND CAHIER – a film adaptation of Agota Kristóf’s novel

17 October from 20.30 at the Cinémathèque

The screening of the film Le grand cahier directed by János Szász, based on Agota Kristóf’s internationally acclaimed novel of the same title, will be preceded by an introduction and the reading of an excerpt from the novel by literary critic Aliette Armel. A debate on the success of the film adaptation compared to the original novel will follow.

Aliette Armel is a French novelist, essayist and literary critic. She has published numerous biographies and interviewed some of the major authors of our age – including Agota Kristof.

Le grand cahier is a testament to Agota Kristof's reputation as one of the most provocative exponents of new-wave European fiction. It is a postmodern bildungsroman, written in an extremely dark, factual style, stripped of any embellishment, which tells the story of two brothers, lost in a country torn apart by conflict, who must learn every trick of evil and cruelty merely to survive.
