Set in two neighbouring villages burdened by a long history of inter-ethnic hatred, the film follows the romantic relationship between three different couples, each happening in its own decade but portrayed by the same actors. Is history about to repeat itself or can we learn something from it? This is a story about the fragility – and intensity – of forbidden love. The year is 1991 and pre-war madness is deepening the gap between the two communities. A small trace of hope is found between two lovers, each belonging to a different ethnic group, whose love becomes a forbidden luxury. In the year 2001 we find a couple searching for a new beginning. The war is over but the wounds are still too deep to overcome and make their infatuation grow into a stronger relationship. The modern setting of the third story is in 2011. Even though suspicion has not yet completely vanished from the hearts and lives of the characters, the roots of a new love affair are finally possible once the lovers break free from the past. A disturbing, yet beautiful and original look at the slowly healing wounds of the Balkan conflicts.
