With his newest production I'm a Killer, the multi-award-winning Polish film director Maciej Pieprzyca (Life Feels Good, Audience Award at CinEast 2014) brings to the screen the story of The Vampire of Zag³êbie, a serial killer of women, inspired by real events from the early 1970s. The story is told from the perspective of Janusz, a young, ambitious detective who becomes the head of a police unit focused on catching the killer. Pieprzyca examines the entanglement and moral depravity of an individual who – despite his good intentions – is unwilling to confront his own weaknesses and ambitions and the socio-political system in which he lives and works. A sophisticated, stylish crime story and captivating psychological thriller all at the same time, immersing the viewer in the world of the 70s, yet offering a very universal portrait of a man overpowered by evil.
