Mrs J wants to kill herself. She wants to do it with her late husband's pistol, on the first anniversary of his death. She starts preparing for what she thinks is inevitable: she cleans the kitchen and tries to finish unfinished business, she even orders in advance an inscription on her grave with the date of her death. But she doesn't expect that the hardest battle she'll need to fight to complete this mission will be the one with bureaucracy. In a country undergoing a social transition and economic crisis, we take a peek at three generations of women living under one roof, all victims of their country's transition process – an introverted grandmother who barely leaves her room, her daughter-in-law who buried her husband just one year ago and two young girls – one going through puberty, the other entering adulthood.
A dark and absurd, bittersweet comedy, Requiem for Mrs J. is a thoughtful study of personal struggle with grief and depression, set in grim surroundings, in the midst of the social and economic transition taking place in Serbian society.
