Peter Bebjak

Peter Bebjak,a Slovak actor, director, producer and writer, known for Marhulový ostrov (Apricot Island, 2011), Čistič (The Cleaner, in competition at CinEast 2015) and Čiara (The Line, 2017). After honing his directing skills on TV crime dramas and his previous three features, his 2017 thriller-drama The Line earned him the Best Director Award at the 52nd Karlovy Vary IFF. Bebjak is a graduate from the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava, where he studied first acting and then film and television direction, completing his doctoral studies in 2008 to 2011. He is a director with a masterful grip on genre conventions and a strong sense of how to build suspense while retaining a local flavour in his stories. In 2001 he established DNA Production company, alongside Rastislav Šesták, and is currently preparing to shoot his fifth feature film, the comedy / drama Emil at the end of 2017. He is also known as the director of the first-ever Slovak horror film, Zlo (Evil, 2012) screened at CinEast in 2013.
