This Slovak/Czech co-production feature is a thriller, doused in cynical black humour, set in Slovakia, as we now know it, during a presidential campaign. Based on a novel written by Maroš Heèko and Michal Havran, the film follows the manipulation behind producing a president of a country out of Mr. Nobody, a person no one has ever heard of. The campaign, and its intrigues, are closely tracked by the eyes and mainly ears of two snoops, who have been hired to tap and record Adam Lambert, a conjurer and a true master of the local advertising world. They get entangled in a manipulatory game run by a powerful financial and political group. The Candidate is a witty political farce depicting not only dirty political and marketing practices but also the reality of a post-communist society transformed into a money-ruled, unscrupulous and individualistic society. « You are not the one, who chooses the head of your country! »
