CINÉCYCLE

cinÉcycle

CinécycleThe year 2014 marks the 25th anniversary of the fall of the totalitarian regimes in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe. CinEast is taking a look at the journey these countries have taken since 1989 in its thematic cycle “So Far, So Close”.

Many films in the programme (features, documentaries and short films) reflect on the process of rapprochement and the differences still in existence between the “East” and the “West”. Has a quarter of a century been long enough to bring down the physical and economical barriers and remove the cultural and human boundaries that used to separate us? What is the state of affairs 25 years later (or less) in the young democracies in Central and Eastern Europe and in the Balkans?

This theme is also explored in the photography exhibition “So Far, So Close” at the Abbaye de Neumünster, presenting works by Polish, Czech, Hungarian, Romanian, Slovak, Luxembourgish, Italian and Dutch photographers. Moreover, a special evening entitled “25 Years After” including two films and a debate will take place at the CCRN on 20 October.

The films belonging to the cycle are:

All My Children, Barbarians, Dragan Wende-West Berlin, Jack Strong, Maidan, Roxanne, The Closed CircuitThe Judgment, The Unsaved, The Wall, Ukraine Goodbye, Viktoria
