Indie rock (ciné-)concert by KRISTEN
16 October at Exit07

kristen.jpg

Thursday 16 October from 20.00
Exit 07 (full presentation)

Live soundtrack to Konwicki’s The Last Day of Summer and a concert of the band’s own repertoire

In Kristen’s adventurous but still accessible music there are echoes of Low’s melancholy, dissonant guitar work of Sonic Youth and The Dead C and sublime song writing of The Sea and Cake.

Formed in the late 1990s and having released six albums so far, the Polish indie rock band KRISTEN was initially inspired by Chicago’s post-rock and math-rock scenes. Gradually the band embraced avant-rock and free-jazz flexibility with delicate brushes of electronics but continued to play live in their core format of guitar, bass guitar, drums, sampler and vocals. They are a fully developed band which seamlessly blends song-writing, improvisation, emotions and abstract soundscapes into absolutely unique music.

Their live soundtrack to the classic film The Last Day of Summer (Grand Prix at Venice IFF 1958) by Tadeusz Konwicki was prepared specifically for CinEast and you will be the first to hear it. After the film and a short break, Kristen will come back on stage to submerge you in their own majestic and raw indie rock sounds.

Friday 17 October from 20.00
CCRN (Salle Krieps) (full presentation)

An evening with the world famous Bulgarian jazz pianist Milcho Leviev

Few dare to take the lonely and seemingly unpromising path between jazz and classical music traditions. One of these few talented and courageous men is Bulgarian jazz pianist MILCHO LEVIEV. His upcoming concert will see him play alongside well-known Luxembourgish musicians BORIS DINEV (drums) and ROM HECK (bass). It will feature original compositions, but also many jazz standards such as Nuages (Django Reinhardt), Sad a little bit, Blue monk (Thelonious Monk), Willow Weep for Me (Ann Ronell), Manhã de Carnaval (Luiz Bonfá), Don's song (Leviev). An inspiring line-up for a great musical encounter between East and West. Three excellent musicians will transport you to the wonderful atmosphere of Bulgarian jazz.

The evening will warm up with the screening of the documentary film A Rainy Day by Andrey Chertov about Bulgarian jazz guitarist Ognyan Videv and featuring Milcho Leviev, followed by an exceptional live performance by the Milcho Leviev Jazz Trio and closing with a laid-back conversation with the performers as well as the director of A Rainy Day in the Caves voûtées.
