Andrzej ¯u³awski is without doubt one of most renowned living Polish directors. His films are powered by magnetic performances from his actors, destructive passions, violent manichaeism and romantic lyricism. He has worked with numerous French and international actors, such as Romy Schneider, Sophie Marceau, Isabelle Adjani, Francis Huster, Jacques Dutronc, Guillaume Canet, Lambert Wilson and Valérie Kaprisky. In addition to making films, he also works in theatre and has written over a dozen novels and short stories. His filmography includes, among many others, L'important c'est d'aimer, Possession, La Femme publique, Chamanka and La Fidélité. After a break of 15 years, Andrzej Zulawski returned to cinema this year with the adaptation of Gombrowicz's novel Cosmos that premiered at the Locarno and Venice film festivals this summer.
