FOCUS ON IMMIGRATION

Refugees... a word that we hear constantly these days. Thousands of people in search of a better life are undertaking long and dangerous journeys to safe and wealthy parts of the world, places where we are so lucky to live. CinEast brings you stories about refugees, both fictional and very real.

Two films and a debate make up a special evening at the Cinémathèque (11/10) dedicated to the theme of immigration. Lazar tells a story from the other side – this film follows a young man involved in human trafficking who makes money by helping people cross the border between FYROM and Serbia. The documentary Logbook Serbistan then continues following immigrants on their journey through Serbia. A debate on immigration will end the evening with a reflection on the current situation in the Balkans and elsewhere.

Besides this special evening, two more films will be screened that address the issue, but from the perspective of immigration from the Balkans. Babai tells the story of a small Kosovar boy who decides to go to Germany in search of his father, and Flotel Europa presents nostalgic memories on VHS from a childhood spent on a ship anchored in Copenhagen, serving as provisional home to Bosnian families who fled their country during the Balkan conflict in the early nineties.
