Milena is a middle-aged woman living a comfortable life with her husband and two teenage children. They have a big house in a Belgrade suburb and two cars – this is a dream life for an average Serbian. She quietly tends to her looks, dutifully cooks and entertains, and meets her friends for choir practice. She makes love with her husband and they socialise jauntily with a group of old friends. But unsettling realities are beginning to seep into Milena’s consciousness and disrupt her ordered world. A visit to a doctor and an old VHS tape suddenly crush her quiet family life into pieces. We hear her thoughts – things she never thought about before, doubts she would always shut out before they were fully formed – gradually growing and eventually suffocating her unless dealt with.A Good Wife is the story of how a serious secret reverberates in Milena’s life and eventually changes her. It is the directorial debut of the Serbian star Mirjana Karanoviæ, who also excels in the lead role of Vesna.
