Miracle (Stebuklas), Lithuanian director Eglė Vertelytė’s feature debut, is a story about 40-year old Irena, the owner of a post-Soviet pig farm, struggling to keep her enterprise, her workers and her pigs afloat after Lithuania’s shift from communism to capitalism. Close to bankruptcy, only a miracle can save her and her little town. Irena is a tough and ambitious woman, not afraid of work or responsibility, but she has one little weakness – she is starting to fall for the charms of Bernardas, a handsome American man promising to save her business, turning her life upside-down. Is he the miracle that will save her life and the livelihood of her little town? In this quirky tragicomic drama about the changes we go through in our own personal lives, and the changes through which our societies are going, Vertelyte's film focuses on themes of identity, belonging and breaking away from fate.
