The director of the award-winning documentary Sofia's Last Ambulance, which debuted at Cannes Critics' Week in 2012, Ilian Metev, returns with his first narrative feature, a touching, genuine family portrait. ¾ is a true to life study of family bonds that looks at the lives and relationship of two siblings – Mila, a young pianist preparing for an important audition in Germany and her little brother Niki, fearing the imminent inevitable separation from his sister. Tudor, an astrophysics professor, their somehow distant father, fails to communicate fully with his kids. Not without importance is the marked absence of the fourth member of this family, the mother, a missing piece in the puzzle. A contemporary portrait of a family during their last summer together, this nuanced, naturalistic drama gives a convincing insight into miscommunication and loneliness, treading the fine line between fiction and documentary, with a touch of poetry hidden somewhere in between.
