Ewa arrives home from the hospital, while her husband returns from abroad. They haven't seen each other for the past few months. The distance has grown between them, affecting the relationship. As we learn later, Ewa has been having an affair with a teenage boy, Marcel. After secretly meeting him in the rose fields where she works, Eva realises that her little child is missing. The desperate search begins and tension builds as the film unfolds.
Wild Roses is a thoughtful, mature piece of cinema that offers an intriguing and subtle portrait of womanhood while delving into the topics of sexuality, motherhood and social expectations towards women, set in the director's homeland in the Lower Silesia region, where society's conservative life centres around the church and rose plantations. Emotion-driven, this low key drama features an outstanding performance by Marta Nieradkiewicz, accompanied by striking nature, beautiful in its simpleness, that also plays an important part in the story. Depicting emotional states with a psychological depth that captures the nuances of the human soul, Jadowska emerges as one of the most interesting auteurs of the young generation.
