Žanete Skarule

Žanete Skarule, born in Riga, Latvia, holds an MFA from the Film/Video programme at the California Institute of the Arts, where she had a chance to work in fiction, documentary, experimental film and theatre under the supervision of mentors Betzy Bromberg, Thom Andersen, James Bening, Debrah LaVine and James Franco. In 2012, Žanete started working in New York-based studio of the legendary 'godfather' of avant-garde cinema Jonas Mekas. Her professional experience includes working for production houses Backyard Productions in Los Angeles and Ark Media in New York, where she conducted research for PBS documentaries. In 2017 Žanete premiered her debut feature documentary Flying Monks Temple, which tells the story of the award-winning structure at the top of the sacred Songshan Mountain in China.
