Eleven-year-old Jakub simply cannot stand his stepsister or his domineering grandma. To make things worse, he finds out that his overworked mother has lied to him about his father, who is certainly not the captain of a maritime vessel, as she would have him believe. Jakub is bullied at school, pestered by his sister at home, emotionally blackmailed by his mother and his grandmother, and he clearly cannot take it anymore.

Filmed in bleak winter locations and set in a provincial town with no visible connection to the outside world, Jakub Šmíd’s film, a very solid adaptation of the award-winning book by Petra Soukupová, gives us an icy and unforgiving family drama in which fundamental relationships are put to the test.

In the framework of the Czech evening organised in collaboration and with the support of the Czech Embassy in Luxembourg
