FOCUS ON LITHUANIA

This year CinEast is putting the spotlight on Lithuania, which celebrated its 100th anniversary of the proclamation of independence last year.

The Focus on Lithuania will feature seven Lithuanian films of various genres. We bring you three recent fiction features - Summer Survivors by Marija Kavtaradzė, Sasha Was Here by Ernestas Jankauskas and Nova Lituania by Karolis Kaupinis (which is also among the films in the Official Competition) - as well as one of the all-time Lithuanian favourites, Children From The Hotel “America” by Raimundas Banionis and the award-winning documentary Animus Animalis by Aistė Žegulytė. Two short films will be screened in the framework of the Short Fiction Films Marathon (north): Community Gardens by Vytautas Katkus and Is That, Like, Your Real Job? by Gintare Parulyte – screened in world premiere in the presence of the director and members of the film crew.

On 11 October, the focus will be marked by a special Lithuanian evening with a double screening of Children From The Hotel “America” and Summer Survivors, attended by the director Marija Kavtaradzė and by representatives of the Lithuanian Film Centre and the Lithuanian Embassy in Brussels. During the event festival-goers will also have the opportunity to try out some typical Lithuanian snacks, sweets and drinks and learn more about the country.

In addition, the Lithuanian photographer Deividas Buivydas will participate in the festival’s main photo exhibition “Down With Walls!” at Neimënster and, last-but-not-least, the Lithuanian trio Baltic Balkan will perform at CinEast’s Closing party on 19/10 at Melusina.

The Focus on Lithuania is brought to you with the support of    LKClogo_EN_mazas and logo 1 in Brussels.
