Vida and Bane are a married couple who have been living in Sweden for a long time. Leaving their families and the Balkans behind, they now have successful careers, enough money for a decent life and a dog. The one thing they don’t have is: children. When they play the usual ‘gastarbeiter’ routine of visiting their family back in Belgrade for Easter, they will have to decide whether the cost of staying together is higher than the cost of giving up their long relationship and their carefully orchestrated life.
Ana Maria Rossi’s debut feature, premiering at the European Film Festival Palić and receiving special recognition for dealing with the “universal dilemmas of the global world through the lens of relationships that are failing”, is an ode about today’s relationships, the incorruptibility of time and the complexities of the expat life. Growing together, or growing apart? - that is the question which faces every couple. That is, if you give it enough time…
This well-acted psychological drama with comic moments is, as the director says, a story about “the courage to leave and the courage to stay in one place or with one person”.
