In post-WWII Budapest, a lonely man and an orphaned teenage girl find their way back to life through love. Both 42-year-old Aladár and 16-year-old Klára have lost their loved-ones in the war. When circumstances bring them together, they befriend each other and gradually form an achingly tender connection built on mutual love and trust which helps them deal with their trauma-burdened past and the ever-more oppressive presence. As the Communist Party and the Soviet Empire take over in Hungary, the Stalinist era casts a new shadow over the lives of Aladár and Klára and their fragile relationship….
This is a touchingly-rendered and nuanced story about the healing power of love in the midst of national conflict, loss and trauma.
Hungary's candidate for the upcoming Oscars.
