Claude Turmes

After a career as a teacher in secondary schools in Luxembourg (1983-1999), Claude Turmes entered into politics with the Luxembourgish Green Party (déi gréng). He was elected for four consecutive terms as a Member of the European Parliament (1999-2018), where he was rapporteur of a large number of environment-related directives. In June 2018 he was appointed Secretary of State for Sustainable Development and Infrastructures within the second government led by Xavier Bettel. He has been an ecologist activist for decades - among others he is the cofounder of Klimabündnis Lëtzebuerg and for many years was vice-president of Mouvement Écologique Luxembourg.
