A couple is brutally murdered. After the tragedy, the two orphan sisters remain more united than ever. Having become young women, they now work in Paris and live in the popular district of Ménilmontant. The younger is seduced by a young man. She becomes pregnant and finds out that her lover is also in a relationship with her older sister. She runs away. Desperate and destitute, she wanders the streets with her child. By observing the comings and goings of prostitutes, she recognizes her sister among them.
