Dawid Nickel studied at the Krzysztof Kieślowski Film School at the University of Silesia in Katowice and the Wajda School in Warsaw. He worked with Małgorzata Szumowska as an assistant director on her acclaimed films Body and Mug. In his films he chooses protagonists who are stereotyped in Poland because of their sexual orientation or marginalised position in society. His first production was Filipka – a documentary short about his non-heteronormative friend. His first full-length feature film, Love Tasting (2020), won awards at film festivals in Gdynia and Koszalin, as well as the first Young Talents Award at CinEast 2021.
