Turbulent Times Night

TURBULENT TIMES EVENING

Tuesday 18 October

Neimënster

An evening reflecting the two major issues that have been changing our world and impacting our lives – the Covid-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine.

The documentary One Day in Ukraine, which premiered at the Sheffield DocFest in June (receiving a Special Mention) invites us – through various situations and contexts - to experience what it feels like to find yourself in a country facing an invasion. A painfully real peek into the lives of people trying to come into terms with such an unprecedented situation, capturing events from a single day, 14 March 2022.

A Provincial Hospital takes us to a small hospital in the sleepy Bulgarian town of Kyustendil and its Covid ward where we get to know the chain-smoking and incredibly empathetic Dr Popov and the various patients battling coronavirus. The filmmakers took full advantage of hard-to-believe access to the Intensive Care Unit and provided us with first-hand testimony that balances sad moments with laughter and jokes.
