The story of a Ukrainian family living on the border of Ukraine-Russia at the start of the war in the Donbas region. Pregnant with her first child, Irka refuses to leave their house even as the village is being captured by armed forces. Shortly after, they find themselves at the centre of the international air crash catastrophe of July 17, 2014. The looming wreckage of the downed airliner and incoming parade of mourners emphasize the trauma of the moment and it starts to become a little surreal…
Ingeniously shot and beautifully acted, Maryna Er Gorbach’s feature offers a visceral cinematographic experience of what it feels like to continue everyday life in a world that has been torn apart by war. The film is accentuated by a powerful female perspective of hope.
