Western Ukraine, on the eve of the traditional Malanka carnival. Pamfir, a brave and scary man, returns to his family after spending months working abroad to earn money. When his only child starts a fire in the local prayer house, Pamfir has no other choice but to reconnect with his troubled past to redress his son's action. He must take the proverbial “one last dirty job” that will send him down the risky path with irreversible consequences.
Set against the backdrop of a criminal thriller, cinematographically stunning, impressively acted, fast-paced, brimming with tremendous energy and offering some unforgettable imagery, this is a powerful family story about love, loyalty, devotion and redemption.
The film was co-produced by the Luxembourgish production company Wady Films and premiered at this year's Cannes Film Festival.
