Goran Stolevski grew up in Macedonia before emigrating to Australia in his teens. Before shifting to feature films, Goran made twenty-five shorts, screened at over 200 festivals worldwide. His feature debut, the folk horror You Won't Be Alone, which is programmed for a special late-night screening at CinEast, premiered at the Sundance IFF in 2022 and was Australia’s submission for the Academy Awards.
His next feature, the Australia-set Of an Age was awarded the Best Australian Film award at Melbourne IFF in 2022. We are proud to present his brand new third film – the very European and Balkan Housekeeping for Beginners that premiered at Venice IFF only one month before CinEast and is included in our Official competition. Although each very different, the two films on our programme directed and written by Goran confirm that he certainly is an exceptionally versatile and mature filmmaker to watch.
