Tymek, a piano prodigy studying at the Warsaw Academy of Music, returns home for summer vacation. His childhood town is a typical provincial place where nothing much has changed since the fall of communism and where there is nothing much to do. The local youth, including his brother Jacek, hang out around a newly opened kebab place. Their boredom and aimless rage are reaching a point where a culture clash seems inevitable.
Tense and contemplative, combining classical music with street rap, using non-professional actors and told with a great attention to pedestrian detail, this is a “slice-of-life” portrait of Polish youth, which offers an unsparing look into origins of everyday xenophobia. A breathtaking debut based on real events.
