Elena is an exuberant and passionate dance instructor and choreographer, rehearsing a dance performance with a group of young hearing-impaired dancers. Dovydas is a restrained and ruminative sign language interpreter. Their bonding is a product of chemistry between very different personalities, temperaments and libidos. As they dive into a new relationship, they must navigate how to build their own kind of intimacy.
Written and directed with a keen ear and eye for elusive detail and based on compelling central performances, this is an offbeat, slow-paced, talkative modern urban romance that explores the hurdles and intricacies of what it means today to be in a couple, and does so with the ease of a dancer. The film’s director Marija Kavtaradze, who was CinEast’s guest in 2019 presenting her previous film Summer Survivors, won the Directing Award in the World Cinema Dramatic section of this year’s Sundance Film Festival.
