Ága is the second, long-awaited feature film by Bulgarian director Milko Lazarov (Alienation – CinEast 2014), which premiered at this year’s Berlinale. This sublime intimate portrait of an ageing Yakut couple inhabiting the snowy Siberian wilderness and trying to preserve their ancient way of living despite the changes around them transports us to a different, severe yet fragile world with its stunning images and unique atmosphere.
Nanook and Sedna dream about being reunited with their daughter Ága who has left their slowly eroding traditional way of life and moved to a faraway mining town. They live in a yurt on the snow-covered fields of the North, following the traditions of their ancestors. Alone in the wilderness, they look like the last people on Earth. Their traditional way of life starts changing – slowly, but inevitably. When Sedna's health deteriorates, Nanook decides to fulfil her wish. He embarks on a difficult and long journey in order to find their daughter ...
