Lukas is an interpreter working for the OSCE military checkpoint inspection tour on the Crimea border. When their car breaks down in the middle of secluded wasteland with no network coverage, he sets off to get some help but upon his return, the car is gone. The thing is, he still has the car keys in his pocket... and that’s only the beginning of a series of even more extraordinary events.
Visually stunning and poetically surreal, this dark comedy set in the picturesque Ukrainian steppe graciously mixes fantasy with reality, and tragedy with humour. Volcano is the first fiction feature by Roman Bondarchuk, the author of internationally acclaimed documentary films (Ukrainian Sheriffs, Dixieland, Euromaidan. Rough Cut).
