Skulls, horns, bones, fur, skins, claws, fins, feathers, beaks, blood and intestines are all the good things that pierce through the audience’s eyes and right into their souls. At the core of this deliciously meditative documentary lie relentless juxtapositions and dialogues between soul and matter and life and death. Graced with ethereal soundscapes and enticing close-ups, mesmerising, gloomy backgrounds and scenes that took days, weeks and even months to document, this film is a multisensory feast – occasionally uneasy, but always striking. “Honour the beasts, you animals”, says one of the subjects, which proves to be the filmmakers’ motto, as they take a fresh and investigative yet careful and respectful look at the animals, humans and things portrayed in the film.
