Hungarian director Mihály Schwechtje’s first feature film focuses on the very hot topic of teenagers’ social media habits and the risk of cyberbullying. The characters are victims of modern society who navigate the immense flow of information affecting them each day. They may only communicate superficially with their parents, who are always busy, but the real emotional world only reveals itself in the social media.
Eszter, 16, is secretly in love with her English teacher who announces that he is leaving the school to move to London. That same day, Eszter receives an unexpected farewell e-mail message from him in which he seems to be reciprocating her feelings. They secretly develop a romance via SMS and video chat but the gap between reality and the online world quickly shakes up Eszter's pink (purple) world and the online affair spirals into sexual abuse.
A story of hypersexualized girls in animes and muscular guys with an endless number of girlfriends who are desperately looking for affirmation and where morality, empathy, trust and true friendship don’t matter. An insightful film about the teenagers’ (virtual?!) world which shows how easily and naively they share their most intimate side with strangers but hardly trust the real people close to them.
