Mia, a young girl from Prague, arrives at an upscale suburban home in a non-specified western European city to begin her new job as an au pair. However, what seems to be a highly prestigious and financially rewarding opportunity comes at the price of her utter compliance in a set of bizarre and very strict rules imposed by the host family. Mia soon finds herself torn between the imperative to fulfil her new duties and the struggle for her own self-esteem.
Michal Hogenauer’s feature film debut is an eerie, beautifully composed psychological thriller that examines the very limits of individual resilience to manipulation, and is a disturbing tale of compromised cultural identity and subordination.
