IMMIGRANT LIFE EVENING

Wednesday 16 October

Cinémathèque

A thematic evening focusing on people from Eastern Europe looking for a better life in Western Europe.

First we will be taken to a housing estate in today's London in Cat In The Wall by Mina Mileva and Vesela Kazakova (who themselves live in the UK), a film about a Bulgarian architect trying hard to succeed in her new country.

Next we will travel to Belgium to enter the life of a Latvian butcher Oleg, who loses his job and, penniless, ends up in the hands of a ruthless Polish mafia-like boss. A socially sensitive drama on modern-day slavery about people, who might as well be somewhere around us. In the presence of the director Juris Kursietis.
