Michaela Pavlátová

Michaela Pavlátová, a Czech animator and filmmaker, studied animation and has been one of the leading figures in Czech animation since the early 1990s. Her short film Words, Words, Words (1991) was nominated for an Oscar, and she has also received awards at screenings in Montreal, Tampere, Hiroshima and Stuttgart. Her short film Repete (1995) won the Golden Bear at Berlinale. In 1999, she participated in the short story film Prague Stories and four years later, she made her directorial debut with the feature film Faithless Games (2003), which won the Best New Director Award at San Sebastian. Her second film, Night Owls (2008), won the acting awards in the competition section of the Karlovy Vary IFF. In 2021, she finished the feature animation film My Sunny Maad that premiered in the official competition of the prestigious Annecy International Animation Film Festival, receiving the Jury Award. She is the chair of the Animation Department at FAMU Film School in Prague.
