Govinda Van Maele, born in 1983 in Luxembourg, learned his trade inside the industry. His short films have travelled extensively to festivals, winning several awards, among them the Luxembourg Filmprais for En Dag am Fraien (A Day in the Open, 2012). He has shot documentaries for television and cinema and worked as a curator of exploitation cinema at Luxembourg’s Cinémathèque. His first feature film Gutland premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in 2017. The film has just received the Best Film award at the 2018 Luxembourg Filmprais and is Luxembourg’s submission for the 2019 Academy Awards.
