Since Slovakia currently holds the Council Presidency of the European Union, CinEast is putting Slovakia in the spotlight this year. We have invited the Slovak band Bashavel to present their jazz/folk cinéconcert to accompany the first Slovak feature, depicting the life of the legendary Slovak hero Jánošík. In addition, we have programmed a whole special evening dedicated to Slovak film.

During the Slovak evening, we present the poetic film Everything I Like Martin Šulík, one of the most original Slovak directors of the last 30 years. The film is considered one of the best Slovak movies to emerge from the turbulent 1990s.

Of course, we could not overlook Eva Nová by Marko Škop, the most internationally successful Slovak film of the past year, which will also represent Slovakia at the upcoming Academy Awards. CinEast is extremely honoured to welcome the leading actress Ms. Emília Vášáryová, who will talk with the audience after the screening.
