FOCUS on ESTONIA

Focus on Estonia

In 2017, CinEast is putting the special focus on Estonia for two excellent reasons: the Estonian Presidency of the Council of the European Union and the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Estonia.

To mark these events, CinEast will present 10 Estonian films from a wide selection of genres: three new feature films (November, The End of the Chain, Pretenders), two excellent documentary films (Disco & Atomic War, The New World), three films for the short and animated film marathon (Ice, Manivald, Penelope), and two children’s films (Miriam at the Lake, Miriam’s Hen’s Dream).

The festival will also welcome the film directors, Rainer Sarnet (November) and Priit Pääsuke (The End of the Chain), the photographer Birgit Püve (participating in the exhibition Making a Difference) and, last-but-not-least, the hot ’n’cool combo of Cossacks and Vikings called Svjata Vatra, the band that will perform at the CinEast 10th Anniversary Party on 14/10 at Rotondes.

The Estonian evening on Sunday 8/10 (Cinémathèque), will offer everybody a chance to see the comedy The End of the Chain, meet its director, ask him questions and taste some Estonian sweets and snacks, accompanied by local wine.

All these events are brought to you with the much appreciated support of the Government Office of Estonia, the Permanent Representation of Estonia to the EU in Brussels and the Luxembourgish Estonian Society.
